The Forum of Liberian Women Elders, a subsidiary of the Liberian Institute for “Growing” Patriotism (LIGP) has launched a Women’s Center (Ma Mary’s Place) in honor of Ma Mary N. Brownell, who was a peace advocate and a fighter for women’s rights. The location of the Center will be on Ashmun Street, at the home of our late mother, Ma Mary. This Center is intended to:

  • serve as a Museum, Research and Resource Center that will provide information and history of the role of Liberian women in Nation-building in the past 200 years. Emphasis will be on highlighting their response to the challenges of Nation-building that they faced.
  • be a transient referral safe house for women who are victims and survivors of abuse.
  • provide counseling, legal support and serving as an advocate for survivors of abuse.
